Oshun was born wearing a sparkling white dress. As she grew older this white dress transformed and grew with her. This dress was a part of her and wouldn’t come off, it had all these beautiful designs in it and it was such a gorgeous dress and looked perfect on Oshun, especially with how she wore it.
The other women were jealous of Oshun so they set out to destroy the dress. They threw dirt and rocks at it and the rocks would bruise Oshuns skin. They tried to cut the dress off of her body and even the men joined in. Oshuns dress hung like rags on her body but it still wouldn’t come off.
So they decided to do something so inhuman and vile that it’s hard to even talk about – they soiled the dress in human waste and so the dress stank.
Oshun washed herself and the dress as best as she could but because the dress wouldn’t come off her body you could now smell Oshun before you saw her.
To me the dress represents my sensuality and the feminine vibration of my body. A feminine vibration ( if you were to think of it like a piece of fabric is very light & sensual). People can often sense me coming or vibrationally sense my feminine energy before I even walk into the room. It’s supersonic in a way but unfortunately they have control over how I move.
The dress not coming off of Oshun’s body symbolizes how I’m often told I’m “Too sensual,” (I was even once thrown out of an entire dance studio for being “too sensual”), but when I dance I don’t intent to be sensual and I’m not attempting to show the dance teacher with my ” Sexiness” in any way, that’s simply how my body naturally reacts to music.
The women hating my dress – or rather “Oshuns dress” is symbolizes how the dance instructors tried to shut me down when I danced because they felt I was taking away from the class when I just wanted to be a part of it – I can’t help how my body chooses to embody the music. And I feel super bad when I start dancing and see other women shrink ( although in some cases others start dancing even sexier too).
I’m not here to make other women feel bad I’m just here to express my body as all women are.
At the end of the day I can unwrap the box of that I dance too sensual just like the studio did and cloth myself in that or I can open the dress box that my dress is beautiful and sit and try to learn every inch of my fabric even when it hurts and remember the power of Oshun and her white dress.
