When our ancestors were brought over as slaves the Orisha’s wanted to be able to accompany them, to accompany us – their children. Oshun is the Orisha of the fresh water and because of this she couldn’t cross the ocean. Her sister Yemaya saw the problem and wanted to help Oshun cross the large seas so that both of them could be with us. Yemaya is the Orisha of the salt waters and so she had no problem crossing over the oceans, she carried Oshun so that way she could be in this horrible new time of slavery with her children. They are both with us to this day. This is why when you cry first come your tears which are salty (Yemaya) followed by that period that happens after you’ve cried out all of your tears and have that moment of sweet silence and softness which is Oshun.
Underneath your lingerie are parts of the goddesses. Never forget who you are and wear yourself from within.
